我终于从北京回来了。回来之后，我发现有好多东西要做。虽然如此，我将在这里写最后关于bsc 的 post。在北京六个礼拜后，给我的人生增添了许多乐趣，也给我一个很不一样的体验。在新加坡，我的生活围绕着学习与课外活动，也没有特别的。我现在对北京与中国的了解比以前更深了。不仅是在它的历史和政治方面，也是在它的社会方面。比如中国人在北京的生活方式。中国自从改革开放后，经济迅速地发展，人民的生活素质也越来越高。以前人们都没什么提起这个国家。甚至还有些对中国给了负面的评语。我以前本身也不太喜欢去中国。她也不是我旅行地点的首选。大多是因为环境上的因素。当然，来到北京后，我对中国有了新的认识。有些在北京流传的精神可以在新加坡使用。例如尊老爱幼。在巴士或在地铁，如果有人看到老人，就会让位。不过，有些地方还须要进步。比如，随地吐痰是一个常见的景象。总体来说，北京可以算是一个适合居住的城市。

我也了解到我在新加坡其实过着很幸福的日子。妈妈每天都会帮我做家务。她把家里打扫得井井有条。回到家就会有饭吃。这使到我的生活方便许多。到了北京一个人生活之后才亲身体验到家务是多么费时间与力气。看来我真的要感谢我的母亲。另外，在北京体验到在生活上独立的滋味。在北京，我有时需要自己买东西。例如3餐的问题。卖物品是需要砍价。而这是一个很痛苦以及麻烦的程序。

虽然尝试了独立生活，但是如果没有交到朋友，这么行呢？我认识了从其它学校来的学生。这些学生都很优秀。有些数学非常好。有些还能记得元素周期表（Periodic table）。我只记得几个美国的州，而这对于O水准应该没有用吧。他们也是很有趣，有时也会整人。即使我到47岁，IQ只是47，眼镜度数是47，我是不会忘记在那第47个餐馆所发生的47件事。(internal joke)

最后，我想讨论的是我在北京设下的目标。大多数都已经完成了。

我爱北京！

2008年的十月份，知道被选中到北京浸濡时，第一个想到的就是能交到不同新的朋友。那时对北京的地方、历史、环境、还有其它的方面还是一知半解，但我却不知道即将要感受到一种新的体验。一个充满着奥运精神、世界一等都市之一的北京，等待着我的到来。
很快的，40天在北京的经验像非一般的速度一样，很快地过去了。现在回到新加坡，这个非常有压力的教育制度下上课，觉得时间好像过得特别的慢。天天都怀念着在北京和朋友们在一起的美好时光、食物、街上走的行人、那又冷又干燥的气候，让我迫不及待很想在今年底再回到北京旅游。
在这里我想和大家分享在北京学到三大对我来说最有意义的东西。

1. 北京的文化和历史：
一来到北京就能感受到北京有多么注重和尊重他们自己的文化历史。北京机场从天上望下，就像一条龙。说明着当时人们在封建社会的密性，因为世上根本没有龙。来到的故宫、颐和园，能了解到当时的建筑物历史、皇帝的奢侈。没有一个古老建筑是用钉子建成的。以前在中国一定有和现在很不同的技术来建造房子。
圆明园说明了当时清朝低俗了西方人们的火炮，坚决觉得他们的剑和马能打败西方人。只能说清朝固执。
在一个不断发展的社会里，北京没有忘记自己的历史，没有像新加坡一样地西方化，保留着自己的文化，这是放我非常敬佩和看得起的。
２．北京在世界其它顶尖都市的竞争下，不忘本，却名列前茅，继续国际化，前进。
北京奥运给北京带来了很大的变化，也让全世界认识北京。代表着北京的进步，就从建筑来说吧。从故宫里的古老建筑物，到新建的国家体育场（鸟巢），北京奥运的举办地，能看得出中国技术的进步。北京国家游泳中心（水立方)和鸟巢是下一代建筑的开始。
３．北京人们非常文明，懂得尊老爱幼。
让我自己最惊讶的，和在北京最值得赞扬的就是北京人非常文明。在公交车上，不像新加坡。公交车上没有放置什么若乱堆垃圾会被罚款的标示，车上却非常地干净，比新加坡的巴士还干净。
再来，公交车和地铁上有着要乘客们让位给老幼残孕的乘客的提示。他们已看到老人，马上会自动自发地站起来让位，不像新加坡一样，有时还把在巴士上老人们不当一回事，敷衍他们。

这些就是我在北京感到最值得和大家分享的事。

再来，我要看看我有没有达到我来北京的目标。

On this 40 day trip to Beijing, I hope to focus on

1)Learning the history of China
－在二附中中国老师讲解的课中，我的确学到了中国历史。加上到北京不同的历史景点，哪能说我没学到中国历史？

2)Making new friends
－和华中的同学们一起上课，还有其它两所学校一起交流，互相帮忙，难免不能成为朋友。我在这次的计划中，也更了解了我们南华中学一起来到北京的学生。感情现在特别好，我们学会了照顾对方。
3)Bargaining
－我把一个书包从１１０元杀到４０元(:
4)Be able to express myself in mandarin fluently
－还能加上些北京腔呢！
5)Work together well with the others
－在化学和物理的团体作业中，和华中的同学们一起完成，非常顺利。
6)Be independent and take care of myself
－我现在知道自己一个人在外面过生活的感觉了。虽然没有父母的照顾，我知道什么时候应该做什么事。我也学会了独立。我还会自己搭公交车到西单商场购物呢！
7)Adapt to a different climate
－我在北京没有生到病！

中国拥有几千年的历史。这么漫长的历史让现代中国成为一个具有独特文化的国家。她有56个民族,以汉族的人数最多。各个民族有自己的风俗习惯。因此，也出现许多的民歌。有一位从苗族来的著名民歌歌手。她在中国很有名声，也有在美国和维也纳演出。她的名字是宋祖英。她也是一个原生态歌手。原生态的意思跟organic 很相似。虽然原生态歌手是没有受过训练的，但是他们却可以出名。我所要介绍的歌有：茉莉花，辣妹子，。茉莉花是中国的一个代表歌曲。它本来是民歌，经过整理后，便成为了一个在世界上家喻户晓的歌。苗族人爱吃辣。三餐都有辣椒。辣妹子因此而诞生了。爱我中华当然跟中国有关。56频频出现。我觉得是一个爱国歌曲。另一个叫刘欢的歌手。可以说是中国歌坛的大哥大。他是一个著名的现代通俗歌手。虽然有一点年纪了，没有这么好的面貌，但是他凭着自己的实力成名，也在歌坛上红了比较长的时间。奥运会的主题曲也是他唱的。他有他的成名曲《弯弯的月亮》，水浒传的主题曲《好汉歌》。《好汉歌》的乐谱有一点有民歌的因素。可见民歌对中国歌坛有很大的影响。

最后，我想介绍最后一首歌。它就是《喜羊羊与灰太狼》的主题曲。这是中国的一个卡通节目。这部卡通片讲的是一群弱小的羊如何打败可恶的灰太狼。这首歌说明了既是你在表面上不占优势，只要有实力与胆量就能胜利了。

陌生熟悉都是客人请不用拘礼...
第几次来没关系有太多话题...

还记得抵达北京吸入的第一缕空气......
还记得抵达北京迎面而来的第一阵寒风......
还记得踏出机场感受到的第一丝冬意......
还记得40天前，怀着兴奋、激动的心情踏上这片既熟悉又陌生的土地。

寻常的40天？非比寻常的40天？40天里，我经历了许多人生当中个第一次。第一次离家在外那么久，第一次独立生活，第一次自己料理所有的一切。无数个的第一次使我学到了许多东西，获益匪浅。虽然我生在北京，但生命中几乎一半的时间是在新加坡度过的，可以说新加坡已是我的第二故乡。多年后，再次回到北京，再次回到北京学校的课堂，看到了中国的学生，让我看到了如果我留在中国，我的影子。这不禁不使我思考，假如我没有离开北京，我会得到什么？又会失去什么？

动物园的熊猫馆和北海公园的红墙白塔唤起了我对北京的记忆，恢复原貌的前门大街和新兴鸟巢、水立方让我看到了正在急速变化中的北京。刚下飞机，那重重的儿化音一开始还让我听得还不太习惯，可过了几天后，我也满口“京片子”了。北京的马路基本上是横平竖直的，可以用“一望无际”来形容。过马路时也很讲学问，如果你想体验横穿马路感觉，北京无疑是最佳地点。俗话说：民以食为天，学校附近的“成都美食”是我们最常光顾的地方，我们还打趣地说，是不是该给我们VIP卡了。旁边的煎饼店也令人十分怀念。北京的公共交通与7年前相比已有很大的进步，可以直言不讳地说，最新开通的地铁线路可能要比新加坡的好。如果你认为在地铁站设置安检是不现实的，那你就大错特错。北京每一个地铁站都设有安检，每个人的包都要被扫描一遍，按照北京地铁的流量，这不得不说是一个“大工程”。在这40天，我感受到了北京人的热情好客和北京老年人悠闲的晚年生活。德士司机会与你亲切的交谈，公园里随处可见老年人在唱歌、跳舞、打太极、下象棋以及等等的娱乐休闲活动。不过，我觉得最有意思的是，在北京无论是随地吐痰的人或是在巴士或地铁上主动给老幼病残孕让座的人都随处可见，但在新加坡，两者都很难看到。

我浸濡的班级是高一十班，是文科班。遗憾的是没有上到我很想上的物理、化学课，不过也上了在中国独有的政治课。留给我印象最深的就是我们上的第一节的那堂语文课。首先，老师很有感情的为我们朗读了李清照的词《声声慢》，使我们进入作者的感受。然后再逐字逐句地分析每一段话，并且旁征博引，用李商隐以及前人的作品做对比，为我们刨析作者的用意，使我们身临其境。与新加坡课堂相比，中国老师的课多为一言堂，但不得不承认老师们的确有抓住学生注意力的独有魅力。

人有悲欢离合，月有阴晴圆缺，40天很快就过去了。望着正在消失的T3航站楼，仿佛抵达北京就是昨天的事。40天里，认识很多人，见到了很多事，当我们还恋恋不舍的时候，时间却去意已决。几年之后，当我们翻出那些老照片时，我们是否还会记得在北京的点点滴滴，还是只是那些零星的回忆？哈哈，只有那时候才知道。、正如基安所说的：“朋友们，别再逃避现实了。我们回不回去还是得考'O'水准会考。” 套用一句李白的唐诗“长风破浪会有时，直挂云帆济沧海！”希望大家能够努力读书，成为南华九条龙!

我们回到新加坡了!

我们回到新加坡了! 我真得很想念北京。在那里的六个星期所发生的事情是令我毕生难忘的。我还是时时刻刻想着在北京所经历过的点点滴滴。我们大家一起生活，一起上课，一起玩闹，一起度过节日。在这六个星期里，我们有过好多的第一次。第一次在北京自己搭巴士和地铁，第一次在没有父母的陪伴下出远门，第一次在国外庆祝节日，第一次自己做家务。

我真的好想念北京! 在那里认识的新朋友我永远也不会忘记。

在北京的最后一天

今天是我们在北京的最后一天。虽然有一点舍不得这里，但我们始终得回去新加坡。我现在有点想回去新加坡，把在这里所买到的礼物都送给亲朋好友。我在这里的六个星期也交了不少新朋友，不知何时能够重逢。

朋友们，别再逃避现实了。我们回不回去还是得考'O'水准会考。哈哈。

祝大家都生活愉快，会新加坡后要用功读书。

最后一天了！北京再见了！

现在我心里的感情很难形容，心里有一个期待回国的感受可是又舍不得离开北京！北京我走了！我会想你的！我觉得这一起离开六个星期后让我学到了很多新知识，在新加坡是学不到的。心里沉重，非常伤心。好事一定会结束，结束后就要面对O水准了。放马过来吧！我不怕你了！我一定会克服你！来到这里前我有几个可观，第一）交朋友第二）让我话语进步第三）进入读书的心情。看起来我一经完成我所有的客观了！任务成功！哈哈哈！

Immersion(part 2)

With some brief information on 北师大第二附属中学 (the school I am attached to), I will be now telling you more about what the local Chinese students learn in 二附中. I attended classes on history,maths, geography, Chinese,art,English. All subjects are taught in Chinese except for English lessons. Every week, they will change their seats. For example, for the 1st week, I maybe sitting in the 5th row.Then for the 2nd week, I will be sitting in the 6th row. While in the school, they will be also doing 眼保健操 for 2 to 3 times. This exercise will help to give their eyes a break. I think the reason why this exercise is implemented is that the students have to stay in school for long duration to study. As such, it will strained their eyes. There is also something special about their lunch. They do not need to buy their food. Lunch boxes will be provided and it will be found outside the classroom during lunch. Well, if that was implemented in Nanhua, that will certainly that will save us the trouble of going down to the canteen. However, that will also mean the school have to bear an increase in the cost of running the school and we feel the lack of variety in the food.

English Lesson: They learn more on how to converse in English. They combine knowledge and conversational English together. With knowledge in certain topics, it is easier to strike a conversation with somebody else. In our class,i learn about Beijing Opera. They learn more about, train their listening skills etc. But there are, of course, grammar, vocabulary, composition. Our Singapore English lessons focus more on the understanding of the English language. Thus this shows the different standard of the students in China and Singapore. However, don't let their looks fool you, they can still understand the language to a certain extent. But I can see that they are getting better. Their English teacher,although is a Chinese, she can speak perfect English and she is trying many ways to let her students speak more English.

Maths Lesson: The way of teaching here in China is almost the same as in Singapore. The Math teacher uses examples, give formulas, but more monotonous. He uses the textbook more often and rarely uses other medium to teach, like the Internet. Of course, there will be homework. the interesting point is that everything here is taught in Chinese even the homework questions. For instance, do you know what is 二项式定理 and 向量? It is binomial theorem and vectors respectively. I was being taught in English for so many years, so I am not used to being taught in Chinese. When the teacher is teaching about 向量, I have 3 words to describe.Blur,blur,blur! Partly because this is the first time I am hearing about 向量. But the main reason is that it is a new thing. Although I don't understand any of the concepts, i learn that Maths or rather everything can be taught in any language. English is not the only language in the world that can be used to teach. If you go to France, you will learn maths in French.

Art Lesson: It is actually the appreciation of various artwork.

History Lesson: The history that they learnt is different from ours. Singapore's elective history course is using world events to show the different trend in various part of the world. Teachers in China need to teach,of course, the history of China and they also touch on different countries. For example, they use the government structure of Britain, U.S.A, Germany, France to show the influence of capitalism in the 20th century. Some terms that i learnt 总统立宪制,君主立宪制, 共和制. So you can see that China history lesson is more broad. After some interaction with the students, i feel that their general knowledge is strong. Especially the various dates of the events of the world. Frankly speaking, I don't usually remember the dates. In this lesson, I see how well the teacher teach using powerpoint. Here, the teacher focus on the textbook. The powerpoint gives extra information.

Geography Lesson: When i look into their textbook, i think that the content covered is almost the same as that of Singapore.But i must point out about the knowledge they need to know. When given a set of latitude and longitude, they need to identify the location. Do you know there is a place called 火山岛 in the south of Argentina? You can see that like us the China students also need to remember a lot of content for exams.

Chinese Lesson: They called it . Actually, its syllabus is very different from ours. We read on different Chinese essays, however, we only touch the tip of the iceberg. In 二附中, the students had 语文课 that covers more on the Chinese literature. For example, i went through a lesson on 李清照's <<声声慢>>, a type of宋词. The students are supposed to understand and remember it. If this is carried out in Nanhua, it will like every student taking Chinese Literature. They will also be taught on the history of these literature works. For instance, the type of literature that is flourishing in each dynasty, how is it created. As for chinese lesson, you can see the different standards and requirements of the 2 education systems.

最后的星期六和星期天！

我不要回去新加坡！回去就有‘O’水准等着杀我！我不要回去。。。。。。

新期六
我今天到了老舍茶馆去边喝茶边看戏。那里有变脸表演，杂技表演，相声等等。。。非常精彩，尤其是相声，害我肚子痛！接着我去逛街了。对！没错，你没看错，是逛街!哈哈！逛到口袋破个洞了，真可惜啊！

新期天
早上我依然不变，到了教堂去。接着就陪人去逛街！哈哈！这几天就是吃喝玩乐在逛街！哈哈哈！今天的晚餐有老师清客。谢谢老师！糟糕，多五天就会回新加坡了，记起来就会特别伤心。。。

三天的新年假期我到底怎么庆祝呢？

今天早上我很乐意上学，应为今天只是班级间的运动活动。很开心的跟大家分享一个好消息，启航班赢了！如果你们还不知道的话，就是我们！哈哈今天真开心。接着两天就是一样的事情了，就是。。。逛街在逛街！这几天内向别人发现几个很好逛的地方。那里的东西又便宜又美，连我都需要一两个小时多才能逛爽，不说女人了！哈哈！心情愉快，天气变好，2009年的第一天过得很开心！

2009 年1月4日

已经是2009年了! 新的一年，新的开始. 今年对我们来说的确是非常重要的一年. O 水准会考离我们越来越近，在01012009 的早晨，就在 0000 时分，华中的学生还对我们说：“Good luck for O-levels!” 但是他们不需要考. 时间似乎过得特别快! 还记得我们刚刚来到北京的时候，我们还在说：“我们还有30多天!” 但是现在，我们只剩下4天就要回去新加坡了! 真有点舍不得这里，好像在这里呆久一点!

昨天，我们有6个人跟着邱老师到他以前在北京留学时所住的地方. 那栋楼是一栋旧楼，最高是六层. 我们所要去的地方就在第六层. 当我们爬到第六层楼时，邱老师的前同屋便开门给我们. 屋里头和屋外是两个完全不一样的感觉和面貌. 屋子的外面给我们一种很旧的感觉，但是当我们一踏进屋内，我们感到又回到家里的感觉. 屋内的装修却是现代的. 屋子里住着三个人，一个来自新加坡，一个来自马来西亚，还有一个来自韩国. 我还真有一点意想不到，三个来自不同国家的人竟然可以同住在一个屋檐下. 也许这就是我们所谓的缘分吧. 我们在屋子里参观了他们的厨房和厕所等等，他们还让我们参观了他们的房间! 我们过了不久后便离开了.

我们在离开了之后，便步行到北京大学去. 我们到里头的一家店吃午餐. 除了我们六个人和邱老师之外，我们还和一些在北大念书的新加坡人吃饭. 在吃饭的时候，我们还有和他们说话.我们发现到他们都是拿到奖学金然后来北大读书的! 他们真的好厉害，确实值得我们学习.

吃了饭后，他们其中一位带我们到他在北大里的宿舍参观. 那栋楼其实还挺旧的. 那里的走道很暗，似乎是在哪个恐怖片里见过类似的情景. 在那里，厕所，厨房和洗衣房都是公用的. 如果嫌麻烦的话，他们可以自己买一架洗衣机或者是微波炉放在自己的房外. 有些人还甚至把一个冰箱放在房间外. 这种景象在那里是常见的. 我们也到一间房里参观. 他们大多数都是两个人一间房间. 我们也在那里看见一些在那里住宿的新加坡学生!

走出了北大后，我们便到附近的图书城. 我们总共逛了三间书店，而且三间都很大. 我们大多数人都有买到书! 不知不觉，天色都已经暗了. 我们搭巴士到五道口和其他的南华学生会和，一起到一间韩国烤肉店吃晚餐. 除了我们还有邱老师的三位朋友在那里. 谢谢邱老师请我们吃这一顿饭! 我们过后便会去宿舍了. 好晚啊! 已经是晚上9点钟了.

这一天对我们来说真是一大收获. 我们对留学生有了更深一层的了解，也知道在留学时是怎么的一回事. 有些人还因为这样而考虑到外国留学. 我个人认为这天真是不枉此行，因为我请亲看到这里留学生的生活以及住宿情况，也看到了他们在这里的生活. 以前，我一直认为出国留学对我来说是一件不可能的事. 我想象中的留学生活并没有我昨天所看到的那么精彩和充实. 现在，我亲眼看到了，我认为出国留学的确是不错的. 我们可以在那一段时期学习独立, 自己照顾自己, 不要一直依靠父母.

Immersion(part 1)

We have been here in Beijing for a few weeks now and of course we have to join their local classes. One thing i must say is that although our education system are different from theirs, the local students are not having a 'good' time either. During weekdays, they have to be in school for most of their time and they will have to return to school in the weekends. For weekends, students will stay in school from morning to the evening. Their one period is 40 mins and they have a 10 min break in between each period. I think that teachers from Singapore will find So each day they will have 7 -8 periods of lesson. If our school follows this timetable, i think that we will not be able to finish the syllabus. On Monday morning, they will sing the national anthem, hear the achievements of some students, the cleanliness result of each class and one essay.

For the rest of the weekdays, they have to run around the running track for 3 rounds in the morning. I think it can help to bond the class. While running, they will have to shout cheer, maintain the formation throughout etc. They will be assessed based on these criteria. So to get the highest marks the class will have to work together. Furthermore, they also have Pe lessons.Thus they are regularly exercising in the winter,which is very important so as to keep the body fit. For their pe lessons, they will start with another run and a mass warm-up exercise. After that, they will have their own time to play other sports. They have specific teachers to teach the students different sports. Even if the teacher is not present,they will just continue to play the sports. i went to see how they play basketball and i seriously think that they are good. i also notice some similarity among Singaporean and Chinese Students during pe lesson. They will be always students bringing in books and then will sit in one corner and start revising. In the school that i am attached to, the girls are more inclined to study during pe lesson while the boys are the opposite.

今天我到了颐和园和圆明园却参观。
先说颐和园。那里的建组非常豪华又美丽，看了会不经佩服他们。。。那里非常大，我们在那里整整花了三个半小时！可是我们也没走完，你说那个地方大不大吗？哈哈！
圆明园的历史非常长久有悲惨，我为它感到伤心。虽然圆明园现在是一个毁掉的地方，不美丽或不豪华，但圆明园曾经是世界最美丽的花园。唯一知道圆明园原来的样子的办法是靠以前人所画出来的。虽然画得很真，但是我们永远不会体会到圆明园曾经的美丽而为它感到骄傲。真是可惜啊！
终结来说，颐和园比较美丽和豪华，但是我还是比较喜欢圆明园。再见了大家！很快就会见到你们了！

今天我们到了首都博物馆和军事博物馆去参观。两个博物馆大概是展览中国怎么从一个落后的国家而站起来，成为你所看到的中国！在那里多看几个展览后，你会感到那时候中国人的痛苦而同情他们。中国能到今天的成就的确让人佩服。

今天早上我又到了教堂。然后我就到一个批发市场去购物。那里可以用三个字来形容，就是“超便宜！”便宜到没话说。今天就是这样而已，就是买了又吃又在买。心情真愉快！

时间过的真快，今天是浸濡的最后一天了。。。虽然只是三天而已，可是会感到一点难过。跟他们国的时间虽然很短，但是在他们学到了一天小知识。我相信有一天一定能用得到。哈哈！没什么精彩的事情发生了，再见大家！

在高一（9）班的体验

星期一，也就是我们要参加浸濡计划的第一天。晨跑过后，我们在体育馆外集合，等待我们被安排到的班级的班长来接我们。我被安排到了高一（9）班。起初，我们有些担心因为听说高一的学生会比较冷淡。可是，在去班上的路上，我消除了我的担忧。班长和副班长在路上一直和我们聊天，告诉我们班上的一些事情。后来，当我们一踏进高一（9）时，几乎每个人都开始鼓掌和叫喊，欢迎我们的到来。坐在前排的一位女生还大声地说:"他们终于来了!" 听到这句话，我感到很惊讶。我们自我介绍后，要上课了，便在最后一排的空位上坐了下来。

经过三天的浸濡，我发现了许多在新加坡上课和这里的不同的地方。例如：虽然这里的老师大多数都用 microsoft powerpoint 来上课，但他们不会把资料印出来给学生。学生们会主动地在课本上或笔记本上作笔记。当老师问一道问题时，会有许多人举手，想回答问题。而当一位同学答错的话，会有很多人在下面讨论。而当老师叫他们辩论时，他们会立刻自动的分成两组进行激烈的讨论。如果是在南华的话，老师问几遍都不会有人回答，更别说主动举手了。如果是辩论的话，每个人只会呆呆地看着老师。
不知是因为考试要来临的原因还是平时都这样，上课的时候，没有一个人把头放在桌子上，更别说睡觉了。说到这里，我不得不说，在南华，我班每节课，都至少有一个人在睡觉。哈哈。
真佩服这里的学生啊。。

I find immersion lessons very interesting because we get to learn things that may not be taught in Singapore. Especially things like Marxism.
Here is what I have got from today’s history immersion lesson:

我发现让我更有兴趣的却是上那些我们学过的历史所上的课。课上不只能让我们复习，还允许我们有不同对一件事的看法，让我们在SEQ上有更多不同的观点，让我们的SEQ写得更加标准，精彩。特别是今天教上的俄国十月大革命。

Look forward to the rest of the immersion classes. I made some new friends not only from my class, but also other classes. This is because of PE lessons when we were playing table tennis and all the tables had been used up, the only way for you to play is to ask the others and play with them. Friends come that way.

Immersion Lessons @ BSC

I finally blogged after two weeks. During these few days, we were having immersion lessons with the China Chinese students in BSC. Initially, we thought that they were unfriendly and cold just like how some teachers described them. But we were proved wrong the moment we stepped into the class. Some of them were applauding and some were smiling at us. It turned out that they were rather friendly.

So we had lessons like History, Geography, PE, Mathematics, Politics, Chinese, etc. I like Geography and PE lessons because I take E.Geog in Nan Hua and I can exercise during PE lessons. It was a nice experience learning with them and learning the same subjects we have in Singapore but using a different language that we are not used to. It was hard for me to digest what the teachers said because they were all using Mandarin to teach. Gradually, I was used to their accent and teaching style, although sometimes I still don't really know what the teachers were saying because of their accent. Nevertheless, I enjoyed attending their lessons.

On the second day of our immersion lessons, we were introduced to the class during break time. What we did was that we wrote our name on the board using chalks of different colours. We might look silly to them, but we rarely have the opportunity to actually touch the chalk and write on a blackboard, which is something that we won't be able do when we are in Singapore. They were laughing and smiling at us and they always lend us a hand when we need help.

Next monday would be the last day that we attend the immersion lesson. I hope that I can have the opportunity to come to China and learn with the students here.

A visit to 周口店 has not only given me a greater understanding towards archaeological studies of the Peking Man, but also has allowed me to reflect on something else. We were shown to a 8-minute movie of the evolution of man. From apes to modern man, there was a significant change to our brain size as we get more intelligent. However, something struck me as I was watching the movie. What is the meaning of life? In the past, the peking man's main aim each day was to gather food for the family, mainly by killing the slower animals(larged horned deer). As the peking man evolves and becomes the modern man, they still have a quite a common goal, to fill their stomach each day. Modern man, being ambitious, tend to neglect nature, the roots of life and destroy nature. What is the meaning of life? What are we living for? Archaelogists want to find what is life about. They want to study about the roots of their lives. They want to understand human better.

Back to the topic. Other than the museum that showcases the different archaelogy findings, we were shown to the exact place where those artefacts in the museum was found. This allowed us to actually know how archaelogists work and also how they deal with the artefacts they find. I find it to be a very interesting career indeed.

沙河民工子弟学校
十二月十五日下午，我们一行四十人乘车前往沙河民工子弟学校。此行的目的是教那里的学生英文，可正如洪老师所说我们可从他们那里学到更多东西。

一踏进进校门便是一个操场，附近篮球场的篮筐早已破旧不堪，可能是学校的唯一体育设施。学校只是院子里其中的一栋楼的第一层。从学前班到初三，总共十个班，我们教的班级是初一班，大约有二三十名学生。与二附中相比，二者可说是天上地下。由于他们不能在城里上学，所以学校位于北京郊区昌平区。由于他们的父母需要经常更换工作，所以他们无法像我们一样完成学业。由于地处偏远，所以他们没有很好的师资与硬件条件。但他们的学习兴趣不差，当我们开始与他们互动时，他们很积极地向我们提出题，他们对于学习的渴望给我留下了深深的印象。与他们相比，身处优越学习环境的我们又是何其的幸运，而当那朗朗的读书声从那简陋的教室里传出时，远在千里之外的我们在教室里又在做什么呢？他们的教室可能要比我们的脏乱，他们的纪律可能要比我们的松散，可我们呢？

人民抗日纪念馆
还记得，多年前参观卢沟桥时，桥还是免费开放，而宛平城也还没有被修复原貌，五环路也还没有修到这里。也正是在卢沟桥，八年抗战就此打响。

虽然小时候曾参观过人民抗日纪念馆，但印象已经十分模糊了。如今的纪念馆分为八个展区，从9.18事变打响抗日战争的第一枪到7.7事变抗日战争全面打响，从两国势不两立再到中日建交都有非常详细的展览。通过展览，我们看到了日军的野蛮残暴，看到了中国军队的英勇无畏，看到了中国人民的不屈不挠。纪念馆大厅中有一幅名为血肉长城的大型雕塑，那里刻着坚持抗日的全国各族人民，也应了中国国歌中的“用我们的血肉筑成新的长城”。日军曾有过三月亡华的狼子野心，半壁江山曾一度沦入日寇之手，清逊帝溥仪在东北当上了伪满洲国的康德皇帝，昔日曾试图暗杀袁世凯的革命志士汪精卫投靠了日本人，但中国人民并没有屈服。在百团大战，在台儿庄战役，在武汉会战，中国军队给予日军沉重打击。1945年9月9日，长城内外，大江南北一片欢腾，日军在南京投降，长达八年的艰苦抗日终于取得最后的胜利。战争虽然结束了，但仍留下了许多历史遗留问题，成为影响中日关系的关键因素。

侵略者选择了遗忘，但我们要铭记这段历史。铭记不代表揪着不放，社会总是要放下历史包袱轻装前进，但放下包袱不代表对这段历史的冷漠，我们需要这段历史时时提醒我们不要重蹈覆辙。

The important event that happened this week was the cip that the school had embarked. it is very different from the ones that i have in Singapore. In Singapore, the events that i had done are flag days, marshals etc. This time, however, i went to a school in the less developed area of Beijing. This school, if in our education system, will be providing primary and secondary education. This school houses children of the migrants. Beijing, in recent years, have been developing rapidly. Thus it will need more manpower. As such, people from the poorer states of China will move to Beijing to find jobs. When they can't find a job, they will move to another location. As a result, their children will have disrupted education and they can't attend the normal school in Beijing. Next, the standard of the school in terms of facilities and infrastructure is not as good as the ones in Singapore. We has always been comparing our school with others. You will be shocked to find that there is not even one proper basketball court. Worse still,there is no dustbin in the classroom.All of the rubbish were thrown to the back of the door. We have 80 mins to teach them. My team and i had planned to teach a couple of topics but we only get to finish one of it. Nonetheless, i feel that we have done quite well. We taught them about occupation. The class was spontaneous when we ask them questions. However, we heard some disturbing answers like they want to be assassins, hackers etc. Of course, there were students who were not listening and these people had some weird hairstyles which will be surely not be accepted in Singapore schools. Our objective there is not to help them to master English language but to learn how to interact with the students and experience the whole process and the joy of teaching. At that place, i finally feel the difficulties of teaching. it is never easy to control a class and keeping the students interested throughout the lesson. I can also learn some lessons of life. Although they have difficulties to pronounce the words, they never give up. They will keep trying until they get it.i think that we should applied that to our studies especially since we have o-level next year. it is pivotal that we understand the necessary concepts.

今天有时一整天的进入。。。为什么今天有进入呢？真倒霉。。。不过今天还过得很愉快有没有让我伤心的事情所以还不错的平安夜。但是没有那个气氛。我很期待圣诞节的到来。请你快点来！

圣诞节。。。
我显著大家圣诞节快乐！希望大家天天都开心。今天之上两节课，我们才到Keppel Land参观。在那里，我学会了很多知识又发现几个工程师的技巧和方法。虽然我对这方面没有兴趣，但是多知道也无害，所以我听课。 =）不说了，我要去过我的圣诞节了！

二附中的实地考察旅行

今天二附中中学带我们到卢沟桥，人民抗日纪念馆和周口店北京猿人遗址。卢沟桥的历史非常可笑又精彩。人民抗日纪念馆是一个非常让人流泪又感动。如果新加坡被外国侵略，我要学那些英雄好汉，为新加坡付出一切！可是我也希望这一天不会发生。战争已发生后，后果就不堪设想了。周口店北京猿人遗址让我学到了很多知识，比如，北京人的开始和原来，他们的生活习惯和习俗。今天让我感到了很多不同的感情，真没白来一趟。=）

Christmas in another country isn't much different from christmas in Singapore. Just need to have your friends with you, and spread the joy of christmas :)

Celebration with the rest of the singapore students here was alright. There were games, performances (not forgetting forfeits), and lots of songs. Most importantly, gifts exchange! It was quite funny, seeing some people getting the weirdest presents, and some people getting back their own presents. Well, I guess this is just having fun :D

Last night, close to midnight, Anglican students came to knock on our door with their christmas wishes. There were presents too. But what really mattered was that we were all enjoying ourselves. Although there were some of us who misses home, and others who misses friends in singapore, but it doesn't really matter, because we're all together.

It's christmas today! China don't have the habit of celebrating christmas, so lessons are on as usual. Teachers here don't celebrate christmas, but I guess they wouldn't mind receiving presents from singapore students :) For all that they taught us, we thank them during this christmas :D

圣诞节快乐!

昨天，我们大家再上了两节本地老师所给我们上的课之后，我们便到我们所个别被分配到的班级去上课. 我们的班师到高一的班级去上课. 他们的课还挺有趣的! 在午餐时间，我们也在他们的班上和他们一起吃午餐. 大家似乎都和本地的学生一样了.

在傍晚的时候，我们有一个迷你的圣诞派对. 谢谢各班代表所付出的努力以及时间来筹备! 那个派对其实还挺热闹的，但是我们的时间很少，所以还玩得不够尽情. 我们只玩了一些游戏，完后便交换礼物. 过后, 我们在大约630pm 的时候到外头吃晚餐. 这就是我们在这里所度过的平安夜! 听起来很像没有什么特别的.

今天是圣诞节! 可是，我们今天不是假日. 我们还是要去学校上学! 我们在设两节课后，便道keppel Land 去. 那里就像新加坡的组屋区，有许多的设施. 那里有游泳池，各种球馆和游乐场等等. 那里的工作人员还替我们做了一番讲解. 我还真没有想到能在北京看到类似新加坡的景物.
我们刚在学校的食堂吃了晚餐. 现在再晚自习. 我想我就写到这里吧. 再见!

今天我们参加了二附中的课程。我发现了几个特征想和你分享。这里的学校有一个很特别的活动，每几个小时后，他们会有一个按某眼睛的活动。这是让他们保持眼睛健康和让她们轻松一下。他们上课时也会很专心又懂得怎样抄笔记，真让我佩服。我觉得本校应该由安某眼睛的活动，这能让新加坡学生有一个舒适的环境读书又能学会保护自己的眼睛。

星期六的时候，我们一大清早便搭22号巴士到国家大剧院。国家大剧院和水中的倒影结合起来就像是个大鸡蛋似的。那里的保安措施非常严，当我们进入剧院的时候，每个人的背包都必须检查。如果有带水壶的话，我们必须打开瓶盖，然后当场喝下瓶子里的水。起初，当我看到这一幕的时候，我感到哭笑不得。但是，当我再想了想，我发觉到为了国家的安全着想，这种检查也是在所难免的。
进入了国家大剧院，我们都被那里的建筑深深地吸引住了。那里的建筑风格非常独特，真是令我大开眼界。里头有三个不同的剧场，而且是没有麦克风的。全都是靠回音。我们在那里也去参观了一些展览。
其实，我们身为新加坡人的常常都以为新加坡样样都是最顶尖的。但是，这种想法根本就是大错特错。很多时候，我们都必须走出我们那井底之蛙的思想，看一看这个世界。那我们就会发现到其实有许多东西是我们前所未闻的。如果我们拿esplanade 和国家大剧院做个比较的话，国家大剧院的确是比esplanade 好很多。但是，我们不能否认各还是有各的好处以及坏处。

今天到了沙河当一天的老师来当成社会服务活动。我今天教了中三学生一些简单的英语。教他们怎么用英语介绍他们要卖的产品。比如夹克，鞋子和手表。感觉很开心又有成就感。他们已开始不理不睬，但是教了一半后，他们就变成了很好学又很感兴趣。这让我感到非常感动。离别的时候，我好希望能继续教这群人。他们会马上回答你的问题可是有时会比较害羞。可是总结来说，他们好学又很容易教又教得很快。总而言之，我今天觉得很开心！

早上依然不变，上了这里老师教的课和HCI老师教的课。直到1pm左右，我们才塔公车去天坛。这里就是以前皇帝所到的地方为老百姓祈祷。还好天气不冷，风也不大，所以到那里参观不会太冷。哈哈！心情愉快，可是时间过得太快了！请你停下来好吗？=(

今天没什么好说的。。。整天上课又下课吃饭然后睡个好觉。没什么特别的所以不多写了。再见！

星期一。。。
今天又是一个很慢的一天，我们又上了一整天的课程。心情依然不变，时间也过得很快。天气还不错，吃得饱，穿得暖，可是总是睡不够。。。真惨忍。

星期二。。。

我们一大早就到雍和宫。雍和宫是一个喇嘛庙。这个庙非常巨大又很豪华，非常竟惊人。喇嘛庙有一个世界最大佛像。真令人佩服。在十一点左右，我们到最近的餐馆去吃很出名的羊汤面，非常好吃。。。接着，我们到孔庙去看孔子，里面有孔子的人生的道里和背景。真的非常精彩又学到很多东西和人身道里。到了晚上，我们到一个很豪华的餐厅去庆祝雪薇同学的生日。这餐有两位老师请。谢谢老师！今天性情很“high”哈哈。

万世师表——孔子

16/12，我们去了雍和宫、孔庙以及国子监。

雍和宫是藏传佛教的庙宇而孔庙则是祭拜儒家创始人孔子的地方，二者仅一街之隔，相距不过数百米，这让我想起曾看过的一个纪录片，故宫大修时，工作人员在属于道教的钦安殿顶部发现藏文佛经，我相信这或多或少代表了中国人的宗教观。

孔子，伟大的思想家、教育家、儒家学说的创始人。自汉武帝摆黜百家，独尊儒术以来，孔夫子便在历朝历代享有崇高的地位，被誉为万世师表。孔子的思想至今仍深深地影响着我们。正是孔夫子的有教无类，使贫民百姓也可以有机会受到教育，使中国率先产生选拔官员的先进制度，科举制度。同时，也是孔子的儒家价值观塑造了我们华人的传统美德，使古老的中国成为礼仪之邦。孔子的儒家思想使中国领先世界近两千年，备受推崇，可到了十九世纪末，四书五经却成为众矢之的，陈腐的代表。四书五经使人民思想僵化、封闭，导致落后。我们应该从中汲取营养，但抛弃那些君君臣臣的陈旧思想。

2008年奥运开幕式，孔子与他的儒家理念成为其中重要的一环。其中孔子的“和为贵”更在这个风云变幻的世界中显得别具特殊的意义。日本前首相福田康夫在访问中国期间特地前往孔子的老家山东曲阜，并写下“温故创新”四个字。温故以吸取前人经验，而创新正是我们最为需要的。

进入21世纪，一座座的孔子学院在世界各地纷纷开幕，弘扬中华文化，传播儒家思想。在北师大，我们也看到也许多不远千里来自五大洲的外国学生来华求学。孔子的精神正悄然传向全世界。

Hello!

On Saturday, we went to the Olympics stadium. It was very very big! The view from the top was spectacular. (: It was super cold that day and all of us were shivering. We went to xiushuijie after that with some Hwachong and Anglican High students. Most of us bought shoes there. We must learn the technique of bargaining! Some of us actually feel scammed. Haha.

Yesterday, we went to 798. It was like an art gallery, but the size of a neighbourhood. Haha. It was super big and the whole place was filled with art pieces and art stuffs! It was amazing when we saw the whole place filled with al ot of graffiti and art exhibitions. We took quite a number of photos there, mostly the art pieces. There was a Singaporean there who hosted us in one of the art exhibitions. The art pieces there were superb! I shall upload the pictures soon. ;D
Today was just lessons and more lessons. Had History and Chinese Literature as usual in the morning and after that was Maths, Chemistry and Social Studies. There's no 课间操today and we had flag raising instead. This was the first time we had flag raising here since the first day we came. It was quite similar to our flag raising, just that they only have it once every week and they do not have school song and have a speaker to say a short speech. Other than that I guess it's almost the same as our flag raising ceremony.

Just went to run before dinner. Me keean samuel and some from Anglican High. First time I ran with them after 2 weeks here and the feeling was great! Running and sweating but not feeling hot at all. Haha. (:

We're going out tomorrow for sightseeing! Shall post more tomorrow. Photos will be up soon!

School days....

In the last few days of the second week, we attend classes. We had lessons on physics, chemistry etc. One difference is that we had lessons from morning to evening , however there are breaks in between lessons. One interesting event they do in winter is that all of their students have a morning run. They will assemble in the school running track and they will start to run for 2 rounds. Each class will be assessed and be given points. Their PE lesson is also conducted differently. They allow us to choose the sport that i want. I chose table tennis. I went for my first lesson and had a very refreshing experience. This is the first time i play ping pong so i performed not too well. When i hit the ball, it will either fly out of the table or accidentally hit the teacher. i don't think i want to give comments yet on this segment as i only started playing the game. May be i will get back to it after a few lessons. I also had wushu and Chinese calligraphy. Imagine doing Wushu in the school running track during the winter evening and you will feel how 'wonderful' i had felt.( Thank goodness i had my jacket and gloves on!). Well as for the Chinese calligraphy lesson, my hands are doing a pretty bad job. Actually, since sec 2, my calligraphy isn't that good either. i don't know when to apply force to the brush and in the end, my words are either stretched or shrunk. During the weekends, i also visited the 鸟巢 and 水立方. They are marvelous architectures built by the hands of man. Both structures are used for hosting the Olympics and Paralympics. However, the important thing to learnt from this is that they will be reusing most the facilities after the Olympics. This received well comments from the IOC.鸟巢, though designed for track & field events of the Olympics, the stadium will continue to host sporting events, such as football, afterwards. A shopping mall and a hotel, with rooms overlooking the field, are planned to help increase use after the Olympics. Most of the stadiums used are built near schools thus they will be used by the schools afterwards.

第二星期的周末

今天我们去了鸟巢去参观。它的形状很独特又很美丽，不只这样。你一看里面就会忍不住赞美。鸟巢的设计令人感到非常佩服，又比我们的学校大!接着是我们的自由活动，我和南华同学到了秀水街去购物。接着我和洋乐到了西单书店去买书。不料，我们见到圣公会大学的同学也在那里买书。我们吃了晚餐就回去休息。

星期天
今天我到了教堂。演讲者讲了一个故事，非常感人，我忍不住掉了眼泪。。。接着我和几位朋友到798，一个艺术展览馆去欣赏艺术。那里也有新加坡艺术家的作品！接着我们一群同学到秀水街去逛街。不知不觉逛了2-3小时。接着，我和他们去吃晚餐。他们的老师还请客！谢谢老师。

Today was really interesting. Apart from lessons carried out in the classroom, we had PE lesson today. For our PE lesson, we can choose from a list of sports which includes pingpong, soccer, gymnastics, taekwondo and basketball. For me, I chose basketball with Mewleng. Basketball is conducted indoors. After not touching basketball for about a month, I feel so good today bouncing the orange colour ball around! Me and Mewleng really enjoyed the PE lesson today. Most importantly, apart from playing, we met some new friends during the lesson. Heard that they can choose different sports for their PE lessons ever semester. Isn't that cool? I think we can introduce this to nanhua? I think we should like choose our own PE lessons too. Me and Mewleng are really looking forward to the next PE lesson! Just imagine sweating like mad during winter. It's really a new experience for me.

I realised that time is really passing very fast. We're in Beijing for almost 2 weeks already! There's about 4 weeks left. [Lets not say 28 days left. It sounds so short.] I'm like thinking what if we're supposed to leave this place tomorrow? I keep asking myself this question. I'll really miss this place! Hope that the remaining days past slowly.

We had calligraphy class before dinner just now. The teacher was very patient when teaching us the various types of calligraphy. She showed us powerpoint slides before we went into the art room to get some hands-on activities.

It was rather difficult for me to control my hand and wrist even though i had learnt calligraphy during those ACC lessons last year. But I soon got the hang of it and succeeded in writing a nice '一'. The others were having fun too. Although we didn't take pictures during the lesson, there will be still more calligraphy classes to come in future, and of course, we will take more pictures while having fun.

PICTURES! But those words written very nicely were written by the calligraphy teacher. I only took a few pictures of our words. In every picture, there is only one name written by the teacher. So you can compare our 'ugly' words with the teacher's. I think Ming Yuan's words are the nicest, but just now I just went around 'stealing' people's paper to take pictures, or else they might not let me take picture of them.

今天就是这个星期最后读书的日子了。真可惜，第二个星期过了。为什么时间过得这么快！也许应为我过得很开心吧！对了，我们今天上了书法可。今天写了几个字，还好学校又教过我们，所以今天还写得不错。来这里上课的感觉果然不一样，来这里几天，我既然学会了很多中国历史和文化。冷静下来后，我开始想家人了。我每天在家里不珍惜他们，来这里才知道亲人的重要。不说了，我有机会一定会再写。

The Great Wall Of China

慕田峪长城 (a part of the great wall) is where i ascend the great wall . As you know, it is never easy to reach the top of the great wall. You will need a certain level of stamina to reach the top. Even so, there is still a cable car. The climb up the wall is like running a few rounds around Nan Hua High School. The stairs are quite steep and the numbers of steps is also quite large. Along the way, i also view the scenery. At the top, there is a cable car station. I can also see the wall at the top. In the horizon, there are the outlines of the wall on the mountain range. The mountain is also covered with vegetation, although most of it are bare in the winter. In fact, over 90% of the mountain is covered in vegetation. I wondered how the people of the past managed to build the wall on such altitude and environment. The wall was built mainly with granite, and is 7-8 meters high and its top is 4-5 meters wide. It is definitely one of the marvels of the world. When i reached the wall, i was thrilled that i have finally reach my destination. Being able to stand on the great wall for the first time, i think it is a great accomplishment for me. As i feel the cold breeze blowing towards me, i look down upon the wall, i saw watchtowers( which was considered unique as they are considered densely concentrated here),vegetation and towns. I walked towards the cable car station (although i should be heading towards another destination), i saw a eye-catching town. I think that the town is known as Mutianyu village which has been hailed by the Chinese government as a model village because of its rebirth largely thanks to tourism and glassware industries. I was disappointed that i could not reach the place that i had intended to go. But what is more disappointing is that i saw vandalism along the way. The bricks that is used to built the wall has writings on them. Visitors used chalk-like materials to write those words. The wall is one of the valuable gifts left behind by our forefathers. We should learn to appreciate its existence.

今天大家都上了一整天的课. 本来还以为会是枯燥无味的课, 但是其实还蛮有趣的. 我们今天上了历史课, 老师是和前几天一样的. 我们很喜欢那位老师上的课! 因为它的可永远都是很有趣的. 今天的文学课时另外一个老师进来. 我们原本以为他会很凶, 但它其实很搞笑, 大家整节课都在笑. 那堂课真是让大家精神了起来. 接下来的课都是由华中的老师们给我们上的课. 有数学, 物理, 化学, 社会科学. 这些都是用英文上的课. 今天的最后一堂课时武术, 那个老师虽然很严, 但我们学到了很多很多东西. 真没有想到我们来到这里不但可以去游览和上课, 还可以学到课堂上所学不到的东西. 这对我们来说简直是一个很大的收获! (:

这几天下来, 我们上的课都是我们在新加坡所没有学过的. 希望我们可以学到更多的东西！(:

武术课

今天很荣幸地能在操场上上了第一堂武术课。
冷风吹过身体，可说是刺骨的冷，为了取暖，只好在跑道上先跑了两圈。

老师把我们集合后，用很凶的态度对待我们。因为那冷冷的天气，加上那凶凶的老师，每个人都只好乖乖地听他的话。过后，我们开始做了热身运动，然后学习了基本的武术。

哈哈。我们老师可说是得过多次奖项，非常出名的老师。他起初很严肃，但不久就和我们打成了一片，个个也越打越起劲。一个小时很快地过去了，我们学到了不少基本武术。就像南华中学舞蹈团所学的武术一样。希望在这几次的武术课后，能回去和舞蹈团的朋友们切磋切磋。(If possible)

虽然天气预报说今天最高温度是8摄氏度，但今天和昨天一样冷。在操场跑步时，我的手更是冷得有一点迟钝了，但是过了一会儿就没事了。

今天的历史课和文学课一点儿都不无聊，因为老师们都很有趣。过后，我们上化学课。老师竟然在两三天的时间内教完一个章节，真是了不起，而且听得懂大部分的东西。虽然今天我们上的社会科学与我们这9位学生无关，但我们还是很细心地在听华中老师的课。上了社会科学课后，物理老师在课室里做一个非常有趣的小实验。我们也在课堂上呈现我们的专题作业。

武术时间到了！天气真的是太冷了！吕教练要我们在跑道上跑两圈，跑到我的手冻掉了。过后教练开始教我们一些武术的基本动作。详细的内容就由志城来讲吧。

回到课室取暖后，我、志城、玮玥到操场去跑步。我们在操场上看到了思杰。我们都流了蛮多汗，然后我们去吃晚饭。

对了，今晚黄老师飞到上海去了。再见了，黄老师！可是他答应我们在雪微生日的那天回来北京陪我们过生日。

天气变坏了。天气越来越冷了。还好京天早上到上午整天在课室里，所以没被天气影响到。可是恐惧终于始终了，5pm左右，我们到操场上了武术课。应为忘了戴手套，我的手在寒冷的天气里冷冻了。今天就只有这样了，接下来就会很平常。很开心能来到这里读书。我要谢谢所有能让我来这里读书的人。谢谢您们！

到沙河实验学校recce

今天当其他同志都到北京师范大学参观时，我很荣幸地能到沙河实验学校看那里的小学生和初中生上课。这间学校会是我们24/12当天会去做社会服务的地方。

沙河实验学校不同。有什么不同呢？学校特别是给那些到北京民工的孩子的上的。因为从其它中国市的学生不能在北京市上课，所以有了这一所学校，提供教育给这些民工的孩子。

从学校外的铁狮子坟巴士站搭了345快车（Mr Ang said not 三十五块车）到了沙河北桥北的车站，学校就在车站旁。走进学校还下着小雪，就像ice kacang 的冰一样，从天上掉了下来。

走进了学校，有一种很特别的感觉跑进了我心里。虽然这间学校没比其他学校干净、安静、新、大，但学生们从课室中跑出来休息时（我们到了学校刚好是他们的休息时间），个个活活泼泼的样子，只能让我不知不觉中笑了起来。我好想念每个星期六在Clementi Sports Hall帮忙教练教那些小朋友打羽毛球。说起来，我也挺喜欢小孩的。他们的笑很容易的就会感染到我。我好想念南华羽毛球队。好想念教练。好想念311。

Okay! Back to topic!
过了休息时间，到了他们课室里和他们一起上课。如果我没记错的话，好像是小三的课。我故意上了这一堂课是因为他们在上英文课。老师你猜猜是谁。是北师大二附中的一位美国学生！说了一口流利的华语，我实在佩服。

我发现在上课时，虽然上的是小学的课，不是每个学生在听课。（我认为在新加坡小学上课每个学生都很有纪律的，因为我上小学时是这样的。）老师也很难得到每个学生的注意。班上还有不同的武器。除了平常的粉笔和板擦，还有一条粗粗的棍子。err,那是来做什么的，我相信不用说你也知道了吧。学生们有些听得懂，有些听不懂。老师在念不同英语单词时，学生们都会跟着他念一遍。这产生了一种矛盾。老师用英语问同学们问题时，学生们也不明白，既然重复了老师说的话，闹了笑话。

上了将近半个小时的课后，对北京有了一个更不同角度的看待。

我相信24/12会带给我们一大挑战。

My Objectives for Beijing Trip 2008:

I hope to improve my Chinese standard by the end of this trip and also improve my communication skills. Interaction is the best thing that we can have with us in order to know more friends from other schools and also the students in beijing. I hope that we could learn more about beijing's culture and plan ahead for our future as we may have a chance to study or work in China in the future since China is getting stronger. I hope that we could亲身体验到the curriculum and daily life of the students in beijing and understand what they do everyday as this would make us have more exposure to the outside world and not be a 井底之蛙. Having more exposure would be good for us. I hope that I can be more independent after this trip and learn to take care of myself, instead of being so dependent on my parents. Most importantly, I hope to understand more about China after the 6 weeks and put the knowledge into good use. (:

这几天的那点儿事儿

好长时间没有写了，要从什么时候说起呢？已经失去时间的概念了....... 这几天，去了故宫、北大、清华、天津生态成、南开中学、慕田峪长城以及红螺寺。

故宫，集中华传统建筑艺术为一身的伟大皇家宫殿。外朝三大殿巍峨壮观，乾隆花园小巧秀丽。昔日仅供皇帝一人享受的紫禁城，今日已成为世界的文化瑰宝，人民的故宫博物院，供世人瞻仰。故宫藏宝无数，可说是代表了中国古代传统手工业的高峰。偌大的宫殿成就了无数皇帝虚构的天朝梦，那层层宫墙，道道宫门使万国来朝的使节肃然而立，称臣纳贡，但同时也是这层层宫墙，道道宫门，将皇帝深锁在这深宫大院，全然不知正在迅速的改变的世界，直至1840，英国的坚船利炮轰开了中国的国门，中国皇帝仍不知自己的落后。外国使者所进贡的先进仪器也被深深地锁在了这厚厚的宫墙之内，成为仅供皇帝一人所欣赏的玩具，无法与世人见面。故宫见证了中华民族的辉煌与衰落，有过万国来朝的盛世华章，也有被八国联军的铁骑所践踏过的残败景象，这大荣大辱，大起大落时时提醒着我们满招损，谦受益的道理，不可骄傲自满。

长城，东起山海关，西至嘉峪关，用于防卫北方游牧民族入侵中原的一道铜墙铁壁。我们参观的慕田峪长城地势险峻，属于明长城。自秦始皇以来，长城成为拱卫中原的重要军事工事，又历经后代各朝各代的巩固，终成今天的样子。但是，一道城墙却无法阻挡北方各族入主中原，民族融和。秦始皇帝修长城，仅仅二世就垮了，大明朝修了三百年长城，终未能阻挡清军入关。民族融和要远比民族隔离有力于中华民族的发展。

I must say that i am proud to learn more about the project. The Singapore government must have made a daring move to start the project.This project, done with the local Chinese government, is a expensive and need the collaboration of many sectors of the society. Not only do the government need to construct buildings to house the facilities and to recreate the natural environment. The land that the Singapore government chose is not one of the cleanliest. There is not much of water supply and the existing water bodies are polluted. This land was previously used as salt pans and after it was abandoned the land become quite unsuitable for vegetation to grow. Thus you can see that a lot of attention have to be given to the environment. The land around the eco city is also developing and several targets have to be met after some years.For example, the quality of air. How do they make sure that eco city will not affected by the developing areas will be a challenge. I hope that the project will be a success.

今天我们终于上课了！今天终于像浸濡也不是游山玩水了。哈哈。。。今天的课和新加坡的可差不多一样，可是每堂课比较长，老师又非常准时上课又下课。他们的另深夜非常可爱，听了有时会马上更有精神。下午时，我们到北京师范大学去参观，非常有趣。导游也非常认识自己的学校的历史。不知他们怎么记得这些事。对了！今天下雪了！谢天谢地！好了，今天只有这些，明天再继续写。

Today was a much more relaxing day. No school however i still felt as tired. We went to the two famous university in Beijing,Beijing University and Qinghua University. Both universities are trying to diversify their specialty.Previously, Beijing university specialise more in languages while Qinghua university specialise in engineering and sciences.Beijing university also preserve some historic buildings and have one of the largest library in Asia. It also have the better scenery with a lake and pagoda.The impressive thing about Qinghua University is that they have a nuclear power plant and they have a factory making LCD screens. Maybe i will consider studying there but i am more inclined to go to USA......

Day6: Today we went to Bei Da university and Qing Hua university. After which, we went to have steamboat which was extremely delicious! and... CHEAP!!! 50 yuan only!!! Temperature is improving and it is getting warmer. YAY!!! All is fine and laughing everday!!!!

Day 7: Today was free day! Firstly, i went to church with 4other students and 1 teacher. It was an international church and it was really almost the same as in Singapore. It was an open church but only opened to foreigners, haiz... Next i met up with my friends and we went shopping, shopping, shopping and more shopping!!! YIPEE! I went bargaining and it was so fun. Girls were there shopping while i was there having "fun". HAHA. Feel happy here with new friends =)

Day 8: We went to Tian Jing today to check out the Sino-Singapore project here. They have plan to research more on recycling and a more eco-friendly place. It was a eye opener as I realised Singapore was still far away from a eco-friendly enviroment. It was interesting but the trip there and back was like 2 1/2 hours there and back and we stayed for a short while only... Abit wasted as we did not see much but it was worth the trip.

Day 9: I climbed part of THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA! It was really funny as a group of us (Anglican students and teachers + Mr Ng and a few Nan Hua students) were hyped up as we walked. We played music, sang, danced, shouted and sang more. HAHA! It feels good as no one can hear you from way up there. We climbed in up in 1hour30minutes when the average is 1hour, but it was really fun. It is indeed quite memorable. By the way, temperature is at average -4 to 7 degrees and it considered warm.. haha. I heard the first snow in Beijing is tomorrow =) PRAY HARD!!!

5th day in China!!!

Today we had 2 lessons taught by the local teachers on China's history and Chinese literature. At 9.30am, we headed to the Forbidden City! It was huge and confusing inside... we were lucky to have Mr Ng, our teacher, to lead the way for us. Who knows how long we may have to stay inside the "maze"... ... HA HA!!! Today's temperature was slightly better then yesterday and all was well. Feeling abit tired but look forward towards the weekends. So far our school have made friends with Anglican School students and it has only been 5 days!!! One of our accomplishment?? I feel glad that i have been chosen for the trip as it has been fun so far. Lessons start next Wednesday and i hope i will learn as much as i can.

早餐

今天一早六点三十分和其他南华同学在宿舍的楼下集合后，到了附近的成都小吃店吃早餐。如果我能在这三十天内都吃成都小吃，我也不介意。因为在北师大二附中的早餐看了都不想吃。豆浆、油条、粥、豆腐脑、包子、煎饼…etc。在学校里的早餐餐具是放置在一个小服务柜里。每个早餐前我们都得到三楼先去拿餐具，才到二楼享用早餐。吃饱后还得自己洗餐具。这个气候水龙头的水是非常冷的。而且早上学校餐厅那的暖气都没开，所以我不是很喜欢吃学校的早餐。

也需要怪我们第二天早上迟起了，只好到成都小吃点吃早餐。那里的食物丰富，又好吃，跟学校的早餐不起来，每人都会选择成都小吃。

成都小吃店买的是我最爱吃的饺子、豆腐脑（豆花）、云吞、包子、豆浆、油条、油饼…etc。说起来和学校的食物差不多，但是这里的食物非常好吃。豆腐脑有两种口味。咸的和甜的。甜的和新加坡的豆花一样，但咸的很特别。在新加坡的卤面你吃过吗？咸的豆腐脑就是用卤面类似的汤放在豆花上。不同的味道，特别的口味。

希望在北京能吃到更好吃的食物。哈哈。我看我这次回去新加坡又会多了十几二十公斤了。

Yesterday, we went to school to attend our first lessons at Beijing Satellite Campus after our breakfast in the canteen there. There were hexagonal tables and comfortable chairs in our classroom with about 20 other Hwa Chong High boys. The nine of us sat around one table and the teacher for the first lesson was punctual. There were television, visualizer, projector, lockers, etc.

Our first lesson was Social & History lesson (社会与历史课). The lesson was not like any boring lessons in Singapore, instead, it was very interesting and the details of the lesson had managed to catch my attention. We even started copying notes in Chinese and we were busy copying when the teacher suddenly said that she would print us the powerpoint slides, but some of us continued to copy additional notes. Let's see how hardworking we were. haha.

As soon as we greeted the history teacher and packing her things, the next lesson's teacher came in. Some of us were rather shocked to see how punctual the teacher was because sometimes, some of the teachers in Nan Hua were late for lessons. Our second lesson was Chinese Literature (先秦文学课). As usual, we were interested in the lesson probably because it was the first time that most of us attend a Chinese Literature lesson.

You may think that Chinese Literature lesson is boring, but this lesson was the opposite. The teacher was very engaging and she let us listen to a Chinese oldie called 在水一方. The song was slow and beautiful, and the teacher made the song as background music while teaching for the rest of the lesson.

第三天。。。
今天早上我们上了几堂课，例如，中国历史，文化课，化学课，物理课。接着我们到前门去逛街和买衣服。今天的经典是吃狗肉！没错！是狗肉！狗肉比什么肉还好吃。你们应该去试一试。。。接着，我们就回宿舍睡个好觉。

第四天。。。
今天好冷好冷好冷好冷！我们也到北京的动物园去看熊猫。熊猫超级可爱。你知不知道他们每天吃14个小时吗？接着我们到了海洋馆去看鲨鱼，小鱼和大鱼。哈哈! 接着我们去逛街！我们边买便杀价，真爽！接着我就在这里写今天的活动。我希望到北京6个星期后，我的话语会有很大的进步

发生的事我也不都说了，就看看其他人的文章吧。

shuttlers read this! 训练得怎样？我们三个在这里也很努力的在训练。第三天的早上，我们随同华中的另外两名球员到了学校跳绳。在寒冷的早上行走还真是与众不同。黄老师也拍了几个录相，改天再给大家看吧。

晚上，我们到了附近的室内体育场练球。好久都没打球了！我和weiyue打了一会儿后，有两位北京大学的老师要求和我们打一场球赛。虽然我们俩都打得不怎么好，但两位老师都很积极地教导我们。北京人还蛮友善的:)

北京和新加坡还蛮多分别的。过马路的方式不一样，搭地铁搭巴士的方式也不一样，连点菜的方式也不一样。但我想这也是所谓的‘入乡随俗’吧。

第四天了。天气也开始冷了。好期待下雪！:D

天气越来越冷了！
星期二真好玩. 我们的早餐时在学校外吃的, 价钱有点令我们意想不到. 我们早上有迎新，在校园里走了一大圈！下午吃了午餐后，我们便到动物园商场去买冬衣然后便去喝珍珠奶茶. 纳和新加坡的味道很很很不同，挺好看的. 过后, 我们边区放风筝! 大家买了一个彩虹的风筝. 虽然风很大, 但是我们没有一个人的风筝释放的上的! keean 和 zhicheng 还被一只狗最着跑！真好笑.

星期三! 上了咯! 我们上了历史课, 文学课, 化学课, 物理课. 这里的课满有趣的. 其实只有历史和文学课时本地的老师和我们上的, 其余的两堂可是由华中的老师给我们上的. 下午的时候, 我们吃了午餐后便搭车到北京市规划展览馆去. 我们在那里对北京市有了进一步的了解, 北京好大! 之后，我们便在前门那儿走走. 那里有个正阳门，里面有好多好多小店. 我们还在那里吃了晚餐. 猜猜我们吃了什么? 狗肉! samuel 得好主意! 其实还蛮好吃的. 当然, 我们不支持狗肉, 还有吃其他的菜. 晚上的天气实在冷得有点受不了! 风越刮越大, 在大一点就能把我们吹走了[not so serious =P] 晚上，我们打地铁回学校. 第一次搭北京的地铁, 其实那和新加坡的有点不同. New experience! 回到书社后, 我们有些人在临睡之前还在门口下棋. LOL. Oh ya, samuel 一直在流鼻血. -.-

今天，我们一大清早起身到我们星期二去吃早餐的地方吃早餐, 之后，我们便搭车到动物园去. 我们先去看熊猫! 那些熊猫真可爱. 我们还把一只熊猫投了出来呢! [inside joke] 我们去看狮子老虎但是很可惜没看到北极熊. [inside joke]. 我们还到海洋馆去看鱼. 有很多很多鱼! 有五彩缤纷的, 有凶神恶煞的, 有很老的, 总之有各种不同的就对了. LOL. 海狮和海豚的表演真精彩! 我们看了那些会动的后, 边区看不会动的: 天文台. 虽然那里有点闷, 但有好多东西看. 最经典的是, 当我们在看cinematics 的时候, 刚开始大家还蛮兴奋的, 但过了十分钟之后, 大家都睡着了, 我看了足足笑了几分钟. 经接着, 我们打车到西单去. 我想接下来的应该会有人写吧. 我很懒惰type 了.

Today was an interesting and meaningful day. After the tour of the campus, we went shopping. I was actually too shy to approach the salesmen and ask about the price. Some of you might find it weird. I think that I need to interact more although it will be quite difficult for me. I guess I will just have to try. Mr Ng was so good at interacting he managed to strike a conversation with some Americans studying in the campus and some other foreigners. But the climax came when we went to fly kites in the middle of the city. Beijing has open space in the city to allow the citizens to relax. We saw some very wonderful activities going on. One of which is about a stunt done by a human and a bird. The man will let go of the bird. The bird will fly off while the man will use a blowpipe to shoot a ball to the bird. After capturing the ball, the bird will descend and fly back to the man. It is quite amazing on how the man is able to aim at the bird so accurately. Also, we found out there are quite a few people flying kites. The strong cold wind during winter actually allows them to do so. Some of them have their kites fly as high as a 20 storey building. Seeing the fun in flying a kite, we decided to participate in the fun. Of course flying a kite is not easy; it took quite some time to let the kite fly. Some ran around the court and caused dog to chase them instead of following its owner. We saw some masters at work and some even giving us advice and assistance. This shows that the people in china are friendly and are willing to help. Maybe they are influenced by the Beijing Olympic. This also show that some forgotten games that are once considered boring can still has have its appeal even when we grew up and become more inclined to the internet and computer games.

第四天在北京

听说熊猫早睡早起，晚去一点儿它们就睡觉了，所以今天我们一大早起来，搭公交车去了北京动物园，看到了我们等待已久的熊猫！它们真的是超级无敌可爱。。

过后，我们又到了海洋馆。北京海洋馆是世界上最大的水上海洋馆，真是名不虚传，里面的海洋动物色彩斑斓，让我们看得目不转睛。过后，我们还观看了海狮和海豚精彩的表演。。

我们从动物园出来后，便在一家'大锅粥’吃了午餐，然后到了马路对面的北京天文馆。。

今天，大风降温。最低气温-7度，最高气温是-2度，有六级大风。

总之一个字——冷

好，先从前天说起。下午，我们去北京动物园对面的批发商场买衣服，然后沿着路往北展馆的方向走。在北展馆对面的广场，我看到有放风筝的，有玩鸟的。一时兴起，我们大家也买了风筝，过一把风筝瘾，还有发生了一些有趣的事。

昨天，我们正式上了一上午的课。两节中国老师的课和两节新加坡老师的课。中国老师讲的是中国历史社会和先秦文学。老师讲课的方式十分活泼有趣，引人入胜，令我不禁赞叹中国五千年历史的源远流长，以及体验到古人通过诗作所表达的浪漫情怀，使整整45分钟课过地十分充实。与中国老师的授课方式比较，在新加坡老师的课堂上，老师和学生之间的交流较多。或许这体现了新中两国教育体制的不同。

下午，我们参观了北京规划展览馆，了解了北京3000年的建城史和850年的建都史以及新北京的新面貌。之后，我们来到刚刚修复的前门大街，并看到了古城门。正阳门巍峨地耸立在天安门广场以南，虽然城墙早已随着时代的脚步消失，但我仿佛通过这道门，看到了数百年前作为天朝大国首都的大气磅礴，我相信这足以震撼那些前来称臣纳贡的外国使臣。面南，前门大街昔日的繁华重现于北京中轴线，几十间的百年老店林立在街道两旁，迎接八方来客。

今天，最冷的一天，我们参观了我最为熟悉的北京动物园和海洋馆。看到了憨态可掬的大熊猫，威武雄壮的狮子老虎，灵活矫健的海豚和海狮。物是人非，触景生情，我不禁感慨万分。之后参观了天文馆。

第二天在中国

今天我们6点早上就起来了。宿舍非常好，在这里吃得好，睡得好。今天的天气开始降低，要开始穿暖一点了。。。今天是迎新活动，所以没有读到书。我们也体验到这里的传统，就是早晨跑步。他们跑得慢但是很整齐，令人佩服。上午时，我们做本地的巴士到北京城市规划展览馆看北京的历史和文化。接着，我们到靠经西门长的官场放风筝。最终跑道气喘，基安结果被狗追！真好笑。接着又作很多精彩的活动。这里的天气开始冷了，希望我能度过北京的冬天！

Very cold very cold very cold! The weather here is.. WOW! Shiok ar!
Trying to adapt t the weather here, cold air, coooooooool. Even when we talk, there's some white-colour-air coming out from our mouth. Muahaha! And it's going to be colder tomorrow. We did PT yesterday! [Inside joke -.-]

We already bought our daily necessities yesterday and we are going out to buy winter clothings later. Taking bus! First time in my life. LOL.

Finally in Beijing

I must really say a very big thank you to all those who came to the airport to say goodbye. you guys gave me the chance to give a very 'inspirational' speech. Anyway, when i set foot on the Dragon-like Beijing airport, i can already feel the cold breeze blowing towards me. i think you can imagine how cold the weather is. We also chanced upon some athletes from Team China. As i sit in a bus, going to the dorm, i can see the environment here is very different from that of Singapore's. The traffic, the trees,the overhanging cables...... The dorm is quite satisfying and i have high hopes about this trip.

新加坡----北京

昨天1/12，我们一行十人早上在章宜机场Terminal1集合，乘搭中国国际航空公司CA976。约九点半左右，班机起飞，离开了我们熟悉的新加坡，前往北京。

经过6个小时的漫长飞行，在下午三点，通过机窗北京的郊区渐渐地映入眼帘。三点半，飞机降落在北京首都国际机场第三航站楼。出关后，第三航站楼的大震撼了我。据黄有仪说，第三航站楼总体是龙型的，一开始我还没看出来，真是“不识庐山真面目，只缘身在此山中”。

走出机场，一阵寒风迎面扑来，令人顿是感到无比清爽。那丝寒意是如此熟悉，不禁勾起我多年前回忆。在等待上巴士时，我们巧遇中国国家羽毛球队，还看到了奥运会冠军林丹。

我们的宿舍就在北师大二附中旁边，周围几乎是应有尽有，十分方便。

今天早上，我们在学校附近的早点店享用了典型的中国式早餐。有大家熟悉的豆浆、油条、包子、饺子，也有北京的油饼、豆腐脑儿、馄饨，平均下来每人只用了3.80人民币，十分便宜。之后，老师带领我们参观北师大二附中。现在，我们便在教室里使用无线网络博客。

1st Day At China

Today we arrived at Beijing airport, T3. We arrived at 3.30pm before we set off for our hostel. The weather today is managable with a light breeze. Today, we settled down and look forward to our 6 weeks stay with excitment! In a less formal tone, this is basically about our hostel. We have 80+ people, 2 very very slow lifts, and we live on the 11th floor... guess what we did? We showed our fitness and climbed up and down the stairs. It was really tiring and it made us feel we need to work on our stamina. That night, we went to the nearby convinient store to buy daily necessities and especially a SIM card. This is basically what we did for the 1st day... I cant wait for the next day!!!
